  • "SALA USA" for Patagonia Music, Wood Brothers Dates, UK Dates, & More!

Just over a month ago, before we started out on tour, myself and a collective of musicians Kai Welch & The Shanghai Restoration Project (Dave Liang) w/ Kevin Dailey, Jamie Dick, Rayna Gellert, Brittany Haas, Alana Rocklin & Mrs. Biggers' 2nd grade Julia Green Elementary School class) made a recording for Patagonia Music to raise money for environmental causes near and dear. We recorded SALA USA to raise money for Jane Goddall's China branch of the Roots and Shoots program. After shows, a lot of people ask where they can get a recording of our live performance of Sala - now we have it!

Thanks to Patagonia's Geoff Stanfield, Christina Speed & Kasey Kersnowski for assembling this mass of music for good... and for taking The Village surfing in Ventura for the first time! See pictures here

The following "Making of SALA USA" video was taped by Dave Liang and edited by Stephanie Ching.

  • SXSW & West Coast Tour!

    Hello all!

First of all we gotta thank everyone who made our tour of Colorado a SUBLIME
experience. Luckily we had our good friend (& Jared's brother) filmmaker
Evan Engel, in tow with his camera and killer editing skills to share the
journey with you. Currently we have 4 City of Refuge tour videos up on
Facebook & YouTube with 5 or 6 more to come...check out the latest.

And the action doesn't stop~ Kai, Jamie and I are hitting the
road again, this time with soulful "village" veteran, Rayna "Raimaker"
Gellert on fiddle and newcomer to the fold John "Esticulos" Estes on bass
and pedal steel. We'll be out on a 5 week epic tour starting with SXSW in
Austin, TX, making our way across the deserts of the SW, on up the coast
from southern CA to the northern redwoods all the way up to Seattle before
we shoot across to the midwest and make our way home through the heartland.

Come see a show and hang with us!

Right By Her Roots Just Released!

My dear friend and author actually found me interesting enough to write me
into the pages of her book along with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Mary
    Gauthier, and Elizabeth Cook!

It's an absolute honor to be thrown in a pile with these amazing ladies.
Speaking of, I got play a night at Music City Roots with Mary & Elizabeth
and you can see Elizabeth, Jewly and I clog our little pants off to The
Doobie Brothers and Marshall Chapman at the end of the show right here.

    "Sala USA" for Patagonia Music

Along with a gaggle of great musicians, we got together and made a studio
version of "Sala", a song we've been performing live on the road, learned
during the making of Afterquake... and if you've seen us live you've
probably sung along (in your most perfect Chinese ethnic minority dialect)!

Our friend, Stephanie Ching is currently editing a video of the making of
the song with piles of musicians you'll know from our traveling road show.

"Sala USA" is available on iTunes and all the money goes straight to
Jane Goodall's China branch of her Roots and Shoots program. Or you can
order the song through the Patagonia site and learn more about the other
musicians and their chosen environmental causes.
