    Agave Maize is an Australian Black Metal band from Melbourne Victoria. Originally called Ash Bound Apollo, the band was formed in Canberra in 2001 by Lucas Lord-Harris (Drums) and Shannon Hyde (Bass) with the intent to create extreme music without boundaries. Greg Ho (Guitars) and Joel Godwin (vocal) soon joined and the band began recording their first demo. This however displayed a more Death Metal approach to their sound and was never officially released. The Band played around Canberra and in 2005 they met up with Rich McMaster while recording their second demo in Melbourne. Although Rich was only initially handling co-production duties with Greg Ho, he was invited to add some vocals tracks on the recording. The band was so impressed with Rich' s vocals that by the end of the recording he would be featured on all tracks and was quickly asked to join the band full time. The Band changed their name to Agave Maize to reflect the change in musical direction and in November 2006 headlined the warm up show for the final Metal for The Brain in Canberra. By 2008 the band relocated to Melbourne and released a limited pressing of their self-released debut album affectionately called 'Back Alley Abortions'. The album was highly praised by local music media and also saw the band take on a more Black Metal sound. Shortly after this Joel Godwin parted ways with the band leaving Rich as the bands sole lead vocalists. The band was then joined by longtime friend and Guitarist Josh Pearse who relocated from Canberra to join the band as a second guitarist. Agave Maize began playing shows around Melbourne and recorded a 2 track demo called 'Feeding the Wolves' which featured 'Wolves In Angel Skin' and 'The Feeding', however the demo was only made available at the bands live shows. In February 2010 the band amicably parted ways with Josh Pearse and began looking for a replacement. The band was soon joined by guitarist Brock George from Death/Thrash Metal band Drop Forged to fill the vacant guitar position. The band then supported Psycroptic in March 2010 and this was followed up by only a few more live shows throughout the year. The Band began writing new material for a new Album to be released in late 2011, however In July the band played a show which would also be the last with co-founder and bass player Shannon Hyde who decided to leave the band for personal reasons. The band decided to put the recording on hiatus to focus on finding a new bass player. Agave Maize recruited new bass player Anthony Longordo, which was followed shortly after with Greg Ho's departure of the band citing personal reasons. They were recently rejoined by former guitarist Josh Pearse on guitar and have begun working on the material for the new album.
