They altered the name YAHWEH to prevent the name of the Lord from being used in vain. The name for JEHOVAH in modern Judaism is ADONAI, which is their translation for LORD GOD. The name Jehovah or Yahweh is a Hebrew word meaning, I am the Lord. The modern English version translation of the name JEHOVAH should be: I AM THE LORD or THE LORD I AM. The abbreviated term is I AM.
