Fans of Stewie (as I know that guitar is more popular than I am).....
After 3 years, Stewie is leaving the nest. He has been one of the coolest guitars I have owned, but it is time. I love Stew, but my playing style and musical situatons have really placed me in a situation where I need the perfect tele. Not that my Valley Arts tele isn't perfect (thank you, EMG), but I have been offered a trade for a James Burton signature model. Not just any JB...the original Black with gold paisley (yes, James is the first guy to play Paisley teles, sorry to break that to you Brad Paisley fans....)....Stewie will be residing in Missouri with a very cool lady who collects guitars. This is her first VA, and I know she will be welcomed with open arms into the Elite Valley Arts owners club.
Thanks for all the messages asking how I am doing after my 4 day hospital stay. I am fine. Just another CVS attack, which the docs are working with different meds to control it than they have been. I can't say enough about the docs here in Texas, they stuck with the problem and are looking for solutions. There are a few rumors, stories, what have you out there concerning me missing dates and such....for starters, let me clear up a few misconceptions.
    1) Yes, CVS can be life threatening. I have heard that certain doctors in certain Wyoming towns have stated that "it's not life or death" Well, from what I have found out, it is. Not the syndrome it's self will take me out, but the dehydration from it will deplete my potassium and could cause a coronary failure. Fun stuff. No one has ever walked into an emergency room and told me "to get my fucking ass out of the bed, we have a show to do"...I don't see that happening, as I bet Doctors and nurses don't allow that sort of behavior in an ER.
    2) "Riding it out" as I have done, and at times not going to the hospital, from what the docs tell  me is the stupidest thing I could do. Period. I had to miss a Tuesday night show in Arlington because I was admitted to the hospital. Johnny and the rest of the band stood behind me 100%....they called, they came by, and are all helping me with the life changes I have to make to not be sick. So if I did put someone on the spot by missing a date because I was in the ER (I have walked out of the ER against doctors advice to be onstage)....well, screw you. I'm sorry it happened, but crap happens. I come before anything you could ever have going on....nothing, not even your show, is worth my life.  Period. If anyone takes offense to this, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your priorities as a human being. I have also talked to MAJOR players in this game (yeah, I have really come along way since being welcomed to the business in December, thank you) and people get sick. It happens. They don't get fired, nor replaced, or even made fun of. Funny how stories about things like that differ. Enough about that. I am fine, and things are being taken care of.
Lastly, Heather and I have called it quits, for the time being. Nobody knows what will happen in the future, but we have decided to remain friends. I talk to her everyday, and I do miss her, but consider myself  lucky to still be her friend. And who knows? After we both figure some stuff out, who knows. Right now, I have 3 shows I am doing, sessions, working on my solo cd, so I at least have distractions.
BE SURE if you are in Texas to catch us opening for Bucky Covington and Billy Currington at Billy Bob's 2 different nights. It'll be a blast-o-la.
Next Mission....to get James Burton to sign the JB tele. I will post pics as it comes in next Tuesday.

  • The "Brian" Brothers

Y'all, it's always cool to make a connection. When I was a sophmore, I had to transfer high schools, leaving one of my best friends ever behind. Bryan Hanks.
Now he and I had gone to different elementary schools, but met at Noth High. Everyone had always told him "You gotta meet Brian Lowe". And everyone told me, "You gotta meet Bryan Hanks".
We did and for 2 years North High was never the same.
Well, today Bryan and I reconnected. And that makes me extrememly happy.
    Hey Mr. Journalist...good job, bro.
  • Working with Uncle Dan

So, now that I have some time again,  one  of the cool things about being off the road is having the time and energy to put into collaborating with song writers...
Some of you who knew me ALONG time ago in a Galaxy far far away remember I was in a band called Out on Bale. Our bassist, Dan Schibler, was also a songwriter. Fairly new to the game from what I remember, but Dan and I did alot of recording together at his place. When I had a clinic for Line6, I always called Dan to play bass. When I just wanted to jam at the house, I always called Dan. Great bassist, and fun guy to hang out with. And great writer. Through the wonders of modern technology, Dan and I are going to be recording together again. It must be something in the sweet tea here, but I sure do like Texas.
Dan, looking forward to it, bro.
  • Newest Happenings

Sitting here in the Suburbs of Ft Worth, I have many blessings to count. I came through this "trial" pretty much unscathed. I got a killer place in Saginaw with the lead singer from the new band I am in. Johnny Lovett. Make sure you check him out on my space and at johnnylovett.net. It's "Texas Country"....which seems to be good songs, country singers, and loud freakin' guitars. I think I am home, Auntie Em....
I posted a vid from the first show I did here with Johnny and Neon Therapy, and quite a Texas welcome it was. I was also threatened, so I'm not sure I can actually LEAVE the band, which is ok too. Thanks Johnny's mom.
What have I learned about Texas so far? For starters, don't think it'll be a good place to lose weight. They will feed you. Growing up in the south, if you went to Grandma's house, you were expected to eat. Even if it was a tomato sandwich, granny got flat out insulted if you didn't eat. I thought it was a southern thing until I got here. I realized at that point that Texans do consider themselves southerners. They even have sweet tea that will send you into a diabetic coma. There is so much sugar in it that my dreams have been strange since Johnny took me to Taco Casa...I mean being accepted into the space program strange.
Everything animal wise is part chiwawa and part something else. I have seen chiweenies. I have seen chipugs. Chiminidobermans. chisquirrels. And anything else a chiwawa can get to. Yes I know I spelled it wrong. I am in the south again. I can.
All in all, it has been a good move and experience. And that's only after 2 weeks.
