Bio

Purcell is completing her Doctorate in Jazz Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she teaches jazz voice and is the director of the U of I Jazz Vocal Ensemble. Ms. Purcell's student, Olivia Flanigan, won a DownBeat Student Music Award in 2010 for "Outstanding College Performance" in the Jazz Vocals category. ---------------------------------------- A multi-faceted musician, Purcell is an active featured soloist with big bands and small ensembles, band leader and vocal instructor. Purcell honorably separated from the Air Force after four years of service. ---------------------------------------- Purcell moved to Nashville, TN in 2003 where she continued to gig at local jazz hot spots, F. Scott's Restaurant and Jazz bar and the Nashville Jazz Workshop, as well as appearing several times on the Nashville Public Radio show "Live in Studio C." In addition to performing, Purcell stayed active as a vocal educator at Gene Ford Music and the W.O. Smith Music School 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 summer camps. Purcell was also a member of the Women's Music Business Association (WMBA). ---------------------------------------- Purcell currently lives in Champaign, Illinois where she is completing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies.
