  • Bio

Based in the Somerset area, Southern Folk is an acoustic duo playing a blend of contemporary country, americana, bluegrass and folk music. Southern Folk are heavily influenced by American new country/bluegrass act Alison Krauss & Union Station. Previous to becoming Southern Folk Tash and Dave played in a successful four piece country and bluegrass group that played all over the South West in the theatres and arts centres. They were privileged to be finalists in the ukcountrymusic.com listeners award and performed at the award ceremony in 2010. Both Tash and Dave would agree that this was a great group to be a part of and had some exciting times and good memories. Dave Carrett started his musical life as a 16 year old in Black Mariah playing Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath covers as well as original material. But then Dave started playing bass in a dance and jazz band based over at Street in Somerset. He later played professionally on the club circuits in the north for a number of years. Dave decided to take a break from the music business. Sharing the same love of roots music as Tash ,Dave was temted out of musical retirement. Between playing the bass, guitar, mandolin and banjo (not all at the same time!) he shares lead vocals and perfect harmonies to create the sound that is Southern Folk. Tash Morse modestly describes herself as a 'work in progress'. she has been playing since her mid-teens when the guitar playing bug bit her while watching a rock'n'roll band. For several years she played in a variety of electric bands learning as she went. Life for Tash was never quite the same after she discovered an Alison Krauss album while wandering the aisles of our local music shop (her favourite occupation!). Out went the electric guitar in favour of the acoustic and Tash was beating the streets to find her dobro. As our resident new country music expert Tash is usually to be found looking for the next new track for us to learn. She is loving her acoustic music experience and can think of nothing better than to be part of a team playing country music.

Bio:

Based in the Somerset area, Southern Folk is an acoustic duo playing a blend of contemporary country, acoustic and folk music. Southern Folk are a duo from sleepy Somerset in the Southwest UK. They are really pleased to have won two awards in Nashville USA for two of their original songs and have another of their songs signed for a US TV pilot. In addition to performing their own material the duo likes to take well known popular songs and play them in their own style, especially the music of Alison Krauss and Union Station, whos songs feature strongly in their shows. Dave Carrett started his musical life as a 16 year old in a band called Black Mariah ,playing Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath covers as well as original material. But then Dave started playing bass in a dance and jazz band . He later played professionally on the club circuits in the north of England for a number of years. Dave decided to take a break from the music business. Sharing the same love of roots music as Natasha ,Dave was tempted out of musical retirement and particularly enjoys the close harmony singing that the duo have woven into their act. Natasha Morse modestly describes herself as a 'work in progress'. she has been playing since her mid-teens when the guitar playing bug bit her while watching a rock'n'roll band. For several years she played in a variety of electric bands learning as she went.
