Bio
DJ 2rip has shared the stage with the world's greatest dj's and has made his mark by providing edgy, upfront dance music to crowds around the country for over a decade. His dedication has landed him residencies at the nation's top nightclubs and he has since formed one of the largest production companies on the East Coast. Chad Bozzarelli found musical inspiration in the late 1980's due to the rising popularity of synth pop and commercial house music such as "Move Any Mountain" by The Shamen which was receiving radio play at the time. In 1991 he acquired a cassette titled Rave Anthems vol. 1 and was moved by tracks like Mr. Kirk's Nightmare, Energy Flash, and The Vamp. While he was a huge fan of Belgium techno he also fell in love with acid house from Chicago. He soon began collecting unmixed cassette compilations from local music stores and spliced favorite songs onto his own mixtapes, filling in the blanks with AM radio samples or movie audio clips. At the same time he was also becoming a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails and was inspired to create music of his own. After the release of Rebirth in 1996 Chad Bozzarelli took to producing music on his desktop computer. He created several full length live mixes of primarily acid house and minimal techno. By 1997 he replaced production with learning to spin records. One of his friends had a belt drive turntable set-up in a basement studio and an odd selection of tech-step drum & bass and oldskool hip hop instrumentals. Chad began studying the art of scratching as well as figuring out how to piece together hip hop and drum & bass. Throughout the nineties Chad played host to the biggest parties known to his highschool class. What started off in 1995 as a punk & industrial based party in the garage of his parents house had evolved to a 150+ attendance at house parties, field parties and parties in cabins near a rural farm that occurred nearly every weekend until the turn of the millenium. By the year 2000 Chad began distributing his mixtapes and becoming more widely recognized by his friends as an aspiring artist. At this time he was also traveling around to parties, setting up his own soundsystem for private events. By 2001 he had decided to take event production to the next level with an event called The Elements which was hosted in the basketball & raquetball arenas of Penn State New Kensington campus. The party was discguised as a fundraiser for a campus organization that he started and equipped with an illegally borrowed sound system that was used to power major concerts at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena (home of the Penguins). The event boasted an attendance of over 500 people. During that same year Chad Bozzarelli officially entered the rave dj circuit as DJ 2rip and immediately became a main act at raves in Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus. By 2002 he was asked to play at Pittsburgh's largest nightclub for dance music – Groove. He began building a resume as opening act for dj's like Icey, Venom, DJ Micro and Simply Jeff. Shortly after becoming established with Groove, 2rip moved to Penn State's main campus in State College PA. Disenchanted by their diminished rave scene, 2rip along with partner Jon Carpenter revived the partykids in the area with the legendary weekly party – Release @ Bar Bleu along with a large handful of one-off events like Ultrasonic and Back 2 Da Oldskool. Throughout college, 2rip had entered at least a dozen dj battles. These battles were geared toward hip hop turntablists. This forced him to re-ignite his interest in scratching, beat juggling and speed mixing. Each battle round lasted about 1-2 minutes for each dj to perform. After several damaging losses 2rip finally won first place against 13 other well versed dj's, just days before his graduation. The next week he found himself planning an event called Level 1 in his hometown of Pittsburgh. While the event was successful, 2rip decided to search for more inspiration which he found in Washington, DC. Since relocating to Washington DC, DJ 2rip has played throughout the United States as well as in Mexico. His memorable performances for Buzz @ Nation Nightclub built his fanbase while his non-stop thirst for hosting the best parties led to the formation of District Ignition, now the host of the most successful lineup of parties on the East Coast. He has received press in newspapers in three major cities, including coverage of his famous Dance4Life benefits on NBC4.com as well as acclaim in the international community for his weekly radio stream "The District Sound Session." -
