No I'm sorry guys, I'm not going to be able to travel from California to Chicago for your big gig so don't bother sending the invite. Face it, if I don't know you and if we haven't ever talked before, I'm not going to see your band play. I'm not going to download your songs from beatport and I'm not coming to your event either!
It really sucks when on the rare occasion I get a new message that it's not even someone I know and it has nothing to say directly to me. It's just a mass email sent to anyone and everyone. By now you realize that this simply doesn't work. NO ONE FROM MYSPACE IS COMING TO YOUR SHOW!
Want me to come to your show? Send a personal message, start a conversation, find out if we have anything in common. Then and only then do you have a chance to get me to your show if I am within 15 miles form the place you are playing. I have supported people I've met on myspace, but that is because I actually got to know the person I saw.
Also, don't bother trying to comment your gig on my page unless I know you. I am not a bulletin board for your crappy band. You need to find a better approach because MySpace isn't it. Create a couple videos on YouTube and use the keywords to find your audience. Find like minded people in forums. Call your friends, but don't look to me to come to see you perform just because you spammed my comment page with your flyer.
How about instead of sending 50,000 mass emails out to try to get people to your show, how about texting your local friends and asking them to come out with other friends? I bet you get better results this way. How about using a form of marketing that might actually build some anticipation... sorry, a flyer with your name on it isn't gonna cut it these days. It may be a start, but it pretty much means nothing if people haven't heard of you.
These days I get about 1 or 2 messages from people I actually know in a week. The rest of garbage. Does anyone else find this unacceptable?

They see since you DJ they figure its okay to send promo for their tracks and be "friends", hoping to get the dollar or fame. I say let me find the music rather than flashing your new track in my face. ..I remove those people from my friends' list.
