Bio:
In the fall of 2007 Don quit his day job of hardwood floor installer and began pursuing music as a full time career. So far so good...Growing up in the North End of Winnipeg, acoustic musician Don Amero has definitely faced his share of adversity. With poverty, gangs, drugs and violence as daily reminders of the harshness of the world, Don's life was nevertheless tempered by love, support and the knowledge that a Greater Power was intimately involved in his life. Shaped and molded by his coming of age, his music now carries both the depth of experiencing hardship and the luminosity of experiencing hope. All who have the pleasure of listening to his music will no doubt leave with his encouraging message of positivity lifting their spirits.
Don engineered and produced his debut album 'Change Your Life' and released it in the fall of 2006. His first single 'Freight Train' went to the 1 spot on the national aboriginal countdown. 'Change Your Life' was also nominated for 5 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMAs) in 2007 and 2 more in 2008. In February of 2009 Don released his second album 'Deepening' (produced by Arun Chaturvedi and Lloyd Peterson). He has been touring the album all across Canada with plans to do much more in the coming months. Don's first single off his sophomore album 'I'm Just Me' hit the 1 spot on the national aboriginal countdown this past summer. His second single 'She' hit the 1 spot this past November. 'Deepening' won the award for aboriginal songwriter of the year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in Quebec on November 21st, 2009 and Male Artist of the year at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards in Hamilton on November 27th, 2009. 'Deepening' also received 2 nominations at the 2009 APCMAs (Entertainer of the year and Folk/ Acoustic album of the year).
His albums are currently distributed to 34 CD plus stores across Canada as well as Itunes, Amazon, CD baby and many other digital outlets.
