Biography

“Full of bluesy-rock-n’roll…album Living In Particular Ways is a corker” BEAT SURRENDER,UK

“Freaky Age takes you on a speed-date with the dirtiest, grittiest and most exciting out of seven centuries of horny guitar-violence.” HUMO MAGAZINE

"Wow - we're on to something here...these lads may only be 19, but have already self-produced two albums, released through V2 records. Picture the catchiness of The Strokes, the quirkiness of Hockey with Luke Pritchard-esque via Julian Casablancas type vocals...got all the clever pop angles covered." BUGBEAR BOOKINGS, UK

“Catchy, deliciously nonchalant, deadly efficient, dreadfully precise.“ GODDEAU

“Enthusiastic and extremely cool.” SOUNDSLIKE

“Tight, energetic, catchy.” FESTIVALINFO

In case you thought the stream of intense, tightly-wound bands influenced by late-'70s art-punk was limited to the U.K and U.S., here comes the fearsome foursome known as Freaky Age to prove that Belgians can get their licks in too. With support from BBC6 Music, the band are about to embark on their first UK tour.

Having caused a wave of excitement in early 2008, the band were quickly snapped up by V2 Records (in Belgium, Holland and Lux). In April 2008, they released self-produced debut album ‘Every Morning Breaks Out’ with debut single ‘Time Is Over’ hitting the radio charts at number 5, followed by ‘Where Do We Go Now’ with four weeks at number 1 and 23 weeks in the charts in total.

Interestingly though, there’s nothing that gives Freaky Age away as being specifically Belgian. Perhaps it’s no surprise, given their stylistic antecedents. Throughout ‘Living In Particular Ways’ (the band's second full-length release on V2), the foursome sound as if they could just as easily have emerged from London or some sweaty rehearsal room in Williamsburg. In March, the band were invited to play at this year’s SXSW, and since then have been on tour to promote ‘Living In Particular Ways’: their second self-produced album, mastered by Frank Arkwright (The Coral, Arcade Fire, The Smiths) at Metropolis Studios in London.

The band who are all just 19 years old, have spent the last year touring Belgium, France, Holland & the UK as well as playing prominent festivals. With their energetic live shows, Casablancas-esque vocals and forceful Velvet Underground rhythm sections, the band have built up a solid fanbase and Radio, TV and Press attention has been huge. Recent nominations for Best Alternative Band, Best Breakthrough and Best Song for Belgium’s Music Industry Awards (MIA's) and MTV/TMF Awards have only affirmed this.
