Bio
Grayceon is Jackie Perez Gratz (also of Giant Squid and the recording cellist for Agalloch, Asunder, Amber Asylum, Cattle Decapitation, Today Is The Day, Neurosis, Om) on electric cello and voice, Max Doyle on guitar and voice, and Zack Farwell on drums. Grayceon pulls together an extremely diverse range of musical influences and writing styles to create a fresh sound that defies the boundaries of the metal/rock/progressive genres. Compared to Opeth, King Crimson, and Ved Buens Ende, not in sound but in 'feel', Grayceon embraces the hard-to-describe-them definition and expects no hard comparisons to be made any time soon. Alternate low tuning on both cello and guitar, finger picked metal riffs, dreamy double vocals, and unpredictably impeccable drumming all meet to give Grayceon their unique sensibility. -

Sounds Like
"A hint of King Crimson, a dash of Ved Buens Ende, a splash of Pelican and perhaps even a whiff of Dysrythmia, and you’re not even close. A point of departure is hard to find for Grayceon, yet the music sounds oddly familiar and not at all alien, even though the individual parts are challenging and ambitious. ...Sometimes bands are truly indescribable. Not because they are unique, but because their sincerity and passion set them apart, and makes them more than what a couple sentences strung together can say. Grayceon is one of those bands. With the post-rock trend absolutely exploding over the last few years, Grayceon steps in, and brings something new, something fresh and livens up the dull and predictable formulas that others seem to be stuck in, all the while, never really subscribing to one group, or set of theories." -METAL MANIACS 2007

PRESS
“The scope of 'All We Destroy' is simply staggering… always challenging but never obvious.”
-Terrorizer, band of the week
“It’s heartbreaking and brutal and completely original.”
-CWG Magazine
“Grayceon make a wholly new music, one that grafts medieval cadences and the pastoral textures of early British prog onto a bedrock of supremely headbangable, ornate riffing. And there are no seams. Grayceon make metal, yes (and amazingly heavy metal at that), but they draw equally on "And Justice for All" as they do Guillaume de Machaut.”
-MetalSucks
“Like a handful of other great power trios of our day, Grayceon has managed to rip up what's conventional, even by progressive music's standards, and they comfortably jet along a path solely on their own. Tag them however you'd like, the bottom line is that Grayceon creates some of the most compelling and rewardingly innovative music of our day, and All We Destroy nails the bullseye once again.”
-Metal Review
PRAISE FOR GRAYCEON'S SOPHOMORE RELEASE "THIS GRAND SHOW":
"...provocative, intense, and intricate piece of work..."
-Outburn Magazine
"Grayceon's tunes are mammoth in scope... powerful riffing and athletic drumming."
-SF Weekly
"Grayceon is one of the most original, creative, and earnest bands of the post-everything glut."
-Skyscraper Magazine
"WOW. After hearing the first two songs from the sophomore effort from Grayceon, I promptly picked my jaw off the floor..."
-Metal Review
"...dreamy, eclectic mix of cello driven post rock thrash mix that comes across like Apocalyptica, Neurosis and Metallica capped off with a NyQuil fueled lullaby. This Grand Show is more than an ample follow up to the superb debut. It’s a deeper more personal album littered with the same strains of musical brilliance and artistry and will no doubt end up, like the debut, high on my year end list."
-Teeth of the Divine
"...San Francisco's Grayceon certainly doesn't shy away from the epic... at their best, Grayceon delivers an appealing combination of prog rock virtuosity and doomy heaviness"
-Stoner Rock
"...If you know and loved [their] first album, don’t hesitate and get this! Bottom line – Grayceon delivers another stunning album."
-Sonic Frontiers
"This Grand Show lives up to its title and kicks some pretty serious ass to boot."
-Indieville
PRAISE FOR GRAYCEON'S SELF-TITLED DEBUT:
“…somewhere in line with Apocolyptica, Neurosis, and neo-classical thrash of The Fucking Champs. Excellent, regardless what you call it."
-Terrorizer Magazine
"Grayceon’s potluck rock is captivating, smart and challenging... wondrously peculiar in all the right places."
-Decibel Magazine
"I’m not entirely sure if I can convey how truly beautiful parts of this album are, while still retaining a ‘metalness’ that fans of some of the bands above can still appreciate. Grayceon is absolutely f***ing fantastic."
-Digital Metal
"Continually compelling."
-Maximum Metal
"[Grayceon] has produced an album dripping with raw energy and talent. This LP is only four tracks long, but each is a massive, sprawling testament to finely honed musicality derived from a variety of influences. Keep your eye on Grayceon; their new album shows a level of potential absent in most debut efforts."
-Decoy Music
"This self-titled debut is as legitimately progressive as they come these days, not to mention as meticulously detailed and beautifully crafted as anything I’ve heard so far this year."
