Multi-instrumentalist Tom Mason will accompany Lee. Bakersfield's The Councilmen, who released their self-titled CD on Nov. 14, will open the show. Admission is $5. Call Sandrini's at 661-322-8900 for more informationLee is touring in support of his new CD, "So Long, It's Been Good to Know You" (Steady Boy Records) , which hit number one on Euro-Americana radio chart and number four on FAR (Freeform American Roots) radio chart. Writing about "So Long" in Nashville Scene, music journalist Jim Ridley said that if Nashville had a Mount Rushmore, with John Prine, Lucinda Williams and Guy Clark, to "save the fourth head for Phil Lee."Associated Press described Lee as “combining the social conscience of Woody Guthrie with the twisted fury of Jerry Lee Lewis.” Singing with no apologies -- and certainly no regrets -- Lee often shows hard-earned wisdom from his adventures and misadventures. He can easily catch you off guard, moving seamlessly from the gut-bucket blues of "Jemima James" to the poignant Beatle-influenced "We Cannot Be Friends Anymore."About his comparison to Jerry Lee Lewis, Lee says, "I didn't write 'Great Balls of Fire,' but I could have if I'd gotten here in time."So who is this roots rocker whose music is “irreverent, ragged and beautiful in its simplicity” and crafts songs that are home to a cast of social misfits, outcasts, petty criminals and people living on the fringe? Truly, Lee is a man who has lived much of the colorful life about which he writes and sings..When music journalist Peter Cooper wrote in the Nashville Tennessean that Lee is the “Don Rickles of disenfranchised nashtwang,” he captures somewhat the essence of Lee who was born in Durham, N.C. Then Lee hung out in New York City for a while, lived in Los Angeles, and landed in Nashville a few years ago. In-between, he lived on the road, not as a musician, but as a long-haul trucker. Lee's musicianship includes mastering vocals, guitar, drums and harmonica. And, oh yes, he is a talented knife thrower!Lee's second CD, “You Should Have Known Me Then” (Shanachie) garnered a nomination as “2001 Americana Album of the Year,” along with CDs by Rodney Crowell and Delbert McClinton. Lee released his debut album, “The Mighty King of Love” (Shanachie), in 2000.Visit Phil Lee at http://www.myspace.com/migh... -
