Kumbia Queers son seis chicas que tocan punk tropical. El proyecto nació en Buenos Aires en 2007, de la unión de She Devils y Juana Chang (Argentina) con Ali Gua Gua de Las Ultrasónicas (México). En un principio, tocaban covers de The Cure, Madonna, Ramones, Black Sabbath, torciéndolos a ritmo de cumbia, con letras llenas de poesía queer y mucho humor.

Con el tiempo, la banda ha hecho sus propios temas, con los que se convierten en un suceso en Argentina, México, Chile, Canadá y Estados Unidos, con intensas giras promocionales.

Su primera producción independiente Kumbia Nena!, realizada bajo su propio sello discográfico Horario Invertido Records, ha sido editada en varios países, incluyendo Japón. El tema El Dolor de Micaela, un cover de La Sonora Dinamita, forma parte del soundtrack de la película Rudo y Cursi (México, 2008). Sus presentaciones van desde el Zócalo de la Ciudad de México hasta el Congreso y la cárcel de mujeres de Ezeiza, donde han alternado con bandas como Damas Gratis, Pibes Chorros y Alika. La Gran Estafa del Tropipunk es el segundo material de las Kumbia Queers y está producido por Pablo Lescano, el líder de Damas Gratis, una de las bandas más emblemáticas de la cumbia en Argentina. Hugo Lobo, creador de Dancing Mood y trompetista de Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, tiene una participación en el tema Mal Carácter y Toy Hernández (Control Machete, Sonidero Nacional) produjo Celosa y Linda Argentina. Destacan además, las participaciones de Quique Rangel de Café Tacuba (Daniela), Flavio Cianciarullo de Los Fabulosos Cadillacs (Te Quiero un Chingo), Pablo Lescano y Mariano Tomassi.

The Kumbia Queers is an all girl tropipunk band that was born in Argentina in 2006. The band was formed by punk rockers who wished to add a less formal, less strict, less misogynistic touch to the rock scene they experienced in Latin America. Ali, member of the Ultrasónicas (most wild female punk collective in Mexico), invited the She Devils (most wild female punk band in Buenos Aires) to rethink the possibilities of their sounds and melodies. While fooling with their instruments and lyrics, they began playing covers of songs they knew by heart, adding the cumbia punch and twisting the lyrics into divine queer poetry filled with irony, love clichés and a lots of humour. “Their live shows have generated expectation for the love and passion they share with the audience from the stage. Their music is highly critical through an ironic melody, building the perfect scene for an eternal and memorable night of freedom, laughter, dance, and most probably love”.
