Self-taught, Matt Matsuda started playing at the age of 12, and it seems like he hasn't set the bass down since. He had a hard time finding people who needed to play as much as him, or even wanted to. As a result, much of his unique style was developed from countless hours of him playing by himself, and produced from a need to express the music that was always playing in his head. Quickly realizing that traditional bass lines could easily be played with one hand, he began exploring advanced areas in his playing including polyrhythms, multiple simultaneous melodies, eight-finger tapping and piano-style playing. .. .. After living off the shores of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala for 3 months with guitarist Seth Schwan doing nothing but playing music with each other and the locals and submersing themselves into the culture, the two have developed a sound and style all their own. .. ..
