  • Bagpuss update.

    Current mood:relieved

As most people that know me know, my partner in crime for the last 21 years has been my extra large moggie Bagpuss.  He's always been a bit of a character, and displayed some bizarre behaviour over the years!!  Of late, however, he has had been taking seizures, which he seems to recover from very well.  Alex, our long suffering vet, decided  after blood work and cardiograms etc, that it would be best not to treat him as the seizures were only occuring once or twice a year, and it was just one of those things.  tested and cleared for Epilepsy, it seemed that Bagpuss true to form was just being his usual weird self.!!

Worringly, in the last week, he had been fitting up to 5 times a day, bloodwork still clear for everything, we resorted to the net to find a solution, and found a great site that listed all the mad behavioural traits he had displayed since I first became his mum - shouting at night for no reason, chasing his tail, excessive grooming, outrageous eating habits, etc.  All this I got used to - regular vet visits showed a perfectly healthy, albeit deaf cat, and he certainly was a happy little freak!!  Anyhoo, once he started fitting, all this changed and thanks to the WWW I now know and have it confirmed that he suffers from a condition called Feline Hyperesthesia.  Which can also be called mad cat disease!!  It doesn't alwyas progress to fits, guess we were just unlucky!!  Good news is it can easily be treated with Phenobarbitone, which he will have to take for the rest of his unnaturaly long life!!!  Immediately he has been put on a catheter in his shoulder with a slow release Diazepam to give his brain patterns a chance to "reset".  He is madder than a bag of snakes that he has a cast on - maybe because it is pink? - but that is only for 24 hrs, then we just twice a day, scoot some Phenob into his moosh or on is food, and hey presto - no more breakdancing!!   The fits DO NOT HARM him, nor does he remember anything of the fit afterwards - the recovery for cats with this condition, which is something they are born with, no one knows why - is excellent, and they are  very happy, well balanced  kitties!!!  Right now he is a bit spaced until the catheter comes out, but he is very happily lying on a big cushion listening to Pink Floyd and watching the clouds on the ceiling!!!!

Hopefully normal service will be resumed with the meejahor, all bets were off til I sorted my boy out.  Harry the dug and the Phoebster are both very releived also.  Welcome back Bagpuss!!!!

  • What is worse than root canal work????

    Current mood:discontent

What is worse than root canal work???  Answer  - having previous  root canal work REPLACED.  If you've never had it done, it's like, PAIN, PAIN, PAIN.  They oughta use novocain instead of  fillers for plastic surgery - I curently have a mouth not unlike Mick Jagger.  Which I am not in control of.  Tho there are those who would say that is the normal state of affairs......So, due to the fact I had HUNDREDS of injections (OK 4, but with a needle phobia it would as well have been....)

So, speech is difficult, hence the blog.  ooo cannae wait for the anaesthetic to wear off and I can relive the whole procedure once again from the comfort of my own home.  Anyone sensing a slight hint of sarcasm here.....

Anyhoo, thought if I have to suffer, might as well share, I'm good that way!!!!

So, I'm making like Silent Bob - whoa, did I hear a cheer????  if anyone (male) wants to come on over and help to kiss it better, do feel free.  haha (ouch!)
