Bio
Bodega are; Gillian Chalmers (Fraserburgh), Ross Couper (Shetland), Tia Files (Oban), Norrie MacIver (Isle of Lewis) and June Naylor (Isle of Skye). The band have been together from March 2005, and met whilst all members were attending The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music. They later went on to win of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2005/06. Since then, the band have played at Cambridge Festival, Heb Celt Festival and the Fairport Convention. Gillian Chalmers is a piper, fiddler and whistle player from Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire.Gillian has gigged all over Scotland, Ireland (with NYPB), France and Canada (Celtic Colours) with various bands. Ross Couper is a highly successful fiddler from Shetland. He has attended Alasdair Frasers Valley of the Moon music school in summer 2004 and has previously won the Young Shetland traditional Fiddler of the Year. He has played all over Scotland, Scandinavia and mainland Europe. Tia Files is a multi instrumentalist from Oban. In Bodega, Tia focuses on rhythm with acoustic guitar and bass guitar. Tia was part of Donald Shaws Harvest at Celtic Connections 2004. Norrie MacIver from Carloway, Lewis is widely known for his prize winning Gaelic singing. Norrie is another keen multi-instrumentalist who plays accordion, guitar and djembe. Norrie has also toured in Canada in October 2003 as part of the Celtic Colours Festival. June Naylor plays the clarsach and piano player from Uig, Isle of Skye. June is a highly sought after soloist musician and is now attending first year at Strathclyde University, studying the BA Applied Music Course. -
