Satchel Paige was a baseball player whose pitching made him a legend in his own lifetime. He was elected to the BASEBALL HALL OF FAME in 1971, the first player to be inducted from the Negro leagues.
He was the OLDEST ROOKIE to ever play Major League Baseball, and the first black pitcher, at the age of 42. He played with the St. Louis Browns until the age of 47, and was signed to a contract with the Kansas City Athletics at the age of 59. Satchel pitched his last game in organized baseball at the age of 60.
