Ocean of Fire comprises of 4 young musicians. Hailing from different musical backgrounds, this four got together to form Ocean of Fire and write music. Playing everything from rock to jazz to metal, this quartet is highly experimental with their brand of progressive instrumental music. Being a heavy gigging machine, this quartet has been actively participating in both rock and jazz circles. To date, the band has released 2 cds. Expect to hear all their influences ranging from funk, blues, jazz, rock and even heavy metal. Every musician in this band has been very active with the Penang Island Jazz Festival as well, having performed on the mainstage as well as the fringe stages. Kelvyn Yeang. Leader and lead guitarist of the band, Kelvyn works teaching and performing on his guitar professionally with various projects. Coming from a rock background , he lends most of his rock flavour to the band. Currently he is immersed in jazz and fusion. Jonathan Scully. Jonathan comes from a rich musical heritage. Many of his predecessors are all musicians. He began playing drums at a very young age. Currently he plays professionally and teaches drums as well, feeling totally at home with either jazz or rock and anything in between. Chiat A childhood friend of Kelvyn, Chiat co-founded the group. He contributes as a rhythm guitarist in the band. Also playing since high school, Chiat has been working together with Kelvyn for along time. Jonathan Chen. Chen is the bass player for the band.
