Riverside Writers' News 2011/2012
On December 10th, members of Riverside Writers took part in Parallel Dimensions 2011, the annual festival of Fantasy, Horror and Science-Fiction which was hosted by West Kirby Library in Wirral. Images from this event can be seen in the photo gallery here. Participating from the group were Peter Caton, Tim Hulme and Adele Cosgrove-Bray, with guests Jon Mayhew and Mjke Wood.
The December meeting of Riverside Writers was a tad thin on the ground. We had more mince pies, chocolates and bottles of wine than members, and consequently fun was had.
Various ideas for the group have been proposed recently. The purchase of a small PA system for use at future public events has been discussed several times. Clive McLaren has done a bit of research into prices, and the group settled on a maximum price of £150.
Ideas for alternative venues for events (other than West Kirby Library) are invited.
We still have 18 unsold copies of the anthology, despite reducing the price to merely £1. Considering that we only had 100 copies printed in the first place, this isn't so good. Therefore the purpose of publishing another similar anthology is now in doubt. However, we've had another idea! Rather than produce a paper copy, we are considering the possibility of producing an ebook which would be given away FREE online through Amazon Kindle and Smashwords (and via Smashwords through Apple iPlayer, Sony, Kobo, Diesel etc.) This would probably focus on a theme, which has yet to be set. Further information will follow in time.
At the forthcoming January 30th meeting, Elizabeth Gates will be holding a FREE workshop on the subject of overcoming writers block. All members and interested people are welcome to attend. The meeting will begin at 7.30pm as usual, at West Kirby Library.
Adele Cosgrove-Bray announed that her novel Tamsin is now available as an ebook, and the paperback will be published in January 2012. Tamsin is the first in a series of dark fantasy tales about the members of a community of artisan-magicians living in Liverpool. Learn more here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/-/e/B002BLS7W4
