  • Bio

FOR BOOKING AND OTHER INQUIRIES PLEASE CONTACT US AT: silianrailmusic@gmail.com. THANKS.... Silian Rail are two long lost friends who play instrumental music. Robin plays richly complex, open-tuned, finger picked guitar melodies and bass lines, while Eric adds intense and intricate drumming, with additional splashes of guitar, bass pedals, and bells that he kicks with bare feet. Their music is equal parts explosive dynamic intensity and patient reflectiveness. In their five years as a band they have released two full length records, their latest, Parhelion (Parks and Records in the US, internationally on Subsuburban) garnering international critical acclaim; and numerous 7 inches and limited edition EPs. In addition, they have composed several film scores, had songs in independent films, and been featured on an impressive range of music media sites, blogs, and in national print press. All of this while touring the country extensively, in a station wagon, playing everywhere from the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco to the Cat's Cradle in North Carolina, with more than a few church basements, former mortuaries, beaches, forests and tiny, sweaty houses in between, sharing the stage with bands such as Maserati, The Velvet Teen, Caspian, Efterklang and From Monument to Masses. Collaboration has also been central to their creativity, be it with multimedia visual artists (Jon Fisher, Luke Judd, Klea McKenna) or musicians from the fertile Bay Area scene (Judgement Day, Tartufi, The Aimless Never Miss, Dina Maccabee). "Parhelion is filled with the kind of adventurous [yet, melodic] instrumental wandering that has become the signature sound of guitarist Robin L. and multi-instumentalist Erick K. Together they manage to make songs that feel like a narrative; tenuously shifting enough without overindulging in an avant-garde sonic masturbation of sorts [which is sometimes my least favorite part about instrumental bands]. If you close your eyes you can almost see a short film unfolding." -The Deli Magazine NYC "I try not to make a habit of coveting thy neighbor's anything, but Christ if Silian Rail doesn't make me jealous. Jealous for their tone-some glorious, thick whomp that sounds like Bigfoot tap-dancing on the strings. Jealous for their composition; the rare form of noodley that travels down the road to an agreeable destination. Jealous for their form; the very fun ways in which they play multiple instruments at once."

FOR BOOKING AND OTHER INQUIRIES PLEASE CONTACT US AT: silianrailmusic@gmail.com. THANKS.... http://www.signalandnoise.com/2010/09/silian-rail/ Silian Rail is Robin (guitar) and Eric (drums, foot synth, glockenspiel). They play instrumental music which combines richly complex, open-tuning, finger picked guitar playing with aggressive, intricate drumming. Story—Eric and Robin are long lost friends who grew up together in Durham, North Carolina and parted ways at 13, only to re-meet by chance years later in California. Drawn together by the shared history of their musically rich hometown and the sheer oddball luck of the situation, they began playing music together. The connection was immediate, and they soon found themselves warmly welcomed by the Bay Area music scene; garnering critical acclaim for their debut record (And I You, To Pieces) and dynamic live show, forming alliances with local music media like the Bay Bridged and The Deli SF, and co-founding an award winning music collective (Thread Productions) with local heroes Tartufi and Low Red Land. They have shared the stage with numerous incredible bands, including Maserati, Caspian, Efterklang and From Monument to Masses; playing everywhere from the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco to the Sunset Tavern in Seattle, with more than a few church basements, former mortuaries, beaches, forests and tiny, sweaty houses in between. The band has also written and performed original film scores for the MadCat International Women's Film Festival four years in a row, featured songs in several independent films, and continues to work on a variety of film projects and collaborate with multimedia artists (such as Luke Judd, Jon Fischer, Klea McKenna). Their second album "Parhelion" was released in July by Bay Area eco-conscious label Parks and Records. It is available at www.parksandrecords.com and these places: iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/parhelion/id379388360?i=379388383. amazon mp3: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TWCVH6/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1279137865&sr=8-3. Sounds Like:

"...for half an hour, the Bay Area duo’s dazzling post-rock put into a play a ’78 Van Halen vs. Sabbath scenario (albeit on a fraction of the scale): the talented, no-name undercard blows away the headliner with technical ecstasy. Robin Landy and Eric Kuhn simultaneously played more instruments than the limitations of four limbs usually allow. Landy crafted stuttering, bass-like guitar lines drenched in spacey atmosphere; Kuhn played everything else – tat-tat drums, synths, guitar, glockenspiel – and sometimes all at once. Unburdened by vocals, the guitar (the spitting image of Lennon’s B&W Rickenbacker) spoke volumes, periodically constructing heavy walls of sound via lose-yourself, blitzkrieg riffing." - Performer Magazine
