"Sokrates is clearly of the most erudite of Bay Area emcees - his SF State urban studies degree and fascination with the Socratic method shows that hip-hop may actually be too light a medium for him - but he's also one of the sickest up-and-coming DJ's in the East Bay, and an accomplished pianist to boot." - East Bay Express, Jan '07 TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT... I got my real start as a DJ in the Bay Area underground hip hop scene in 1997. As a co-founder of the Four Corners Coalition, I was throwing wack shows by the age of 16, and dope ones by the age of 17. At age 18 I focused his vision for the independent hip hop community, and founded The Collectiv, with the suppport of a small group of friends and family. After a brief stint in Washington DC, I came around back to the Bay Area to focus on the music, and the bigger picture. In 2003 my debut album, Elenchus, caught the attention of my peers and mentors at home. In 2005 I made the East Bay Express Best of the Bay list as a Readers Choice pick. There's been a whole lot of performing, traveling, working, and good music making since then. Now I'm just putting the final touches my second solo project, EXTENDED PLAY, which will be available in 2010. To listen to more music... Check Out SOK'S PAGE on WWW.COLLECTIV.COM -
