VITAL SINES PRESS KIT.. .. .. .. .. Vital Sines was an experiment in soul and culture. A mutant yet soulful arrangement of eclectic musical influences. Rikki X (DJ Essential) is behind this soulful, but versatlile musical experiment. As a DJ since '94, DJ Essential played countless Swell Rave Parties, Nightclubs, and residencies at various Phoenix/ Tempe clubs (The Hip Joint, Soul Kitchen, Da Lounge, TMC Jackson Hole events, PHusion at Cafe Boba, FRESH @Higher Ground Cafe, Bubblin' (@ Jax Thai bar), resident DJ for 99-2000 @Sanctuary (now Myst), Hot Pink (guest dj), for 10 years (1994-2004). He played everywhere in between Vancouver & Miami. In Phoenix he was known as a pioneer of AZ Drum & Bass/ Junglist (playing with DB, RAW, Dieselboy, Goldie, and Technical Itch), and the first AZ DJ to spin Acid Jazz/Downtempo, 2-Step Garage, & nu-jazz/broken beat. He started working with Yoruba recording artist Santos (DJ Saint ) and started collaborating on tracks for Urbanite Recordings. He then went on his own in 2002, and recorded as Vital Sines in 2003. Those were Soulful 2 step/ Broken beat styled tunes"Nu Worries" & "Higher Galaxy". It is testament of what a good imagination, DJ talent, and a great record collection can come up with... .. .. Then in 2005 he fell in love with a new style called Dubstep, reminiscent to Darker UK G he was a fan of in 1999-2001 like Groove Chronicles, El-B (ghost), Zed Bias, Shelflife Recordings, Steve Gurley, Oris Jay, Tempa, and Horspower Productions. He earier was involved with the 2 Step Forum of those days with Jason Mundo (Dub Assembly, TX), Eric H. "The lights" IRIS (Chicago), G Notorious (Soul Champion Boston), NYC's Reid Speed, and even Kode 9 (Hyperdub,UK). In a late night chat session he joked with those above mentioned about calling Darker, dubby 2 Step Garage "Dubstep", that was in 2000. That leaked over by the way of Kode 9, then it became a genre. Then in 2004-05 he then picked up on some early tunes from Digital Mystikz, Skream, Benga, Loefah, Kode 9, Kromestar, and Plastician. He started getting a wide variety of tunes from US producers like Starkey, DZ, Matty G., and Babylon System. Around 2006-07, he soon grew tired of the bangin' wobbly sound and started getting into Burial, Martyn, Synkro, TRG, Pangaea, Sully, Geiom, Shackleton, Ramadanman, Brackles, Silkie, Quest, and H.O.D. In 2007, he played gigs for The Blunt Club's 2nd "Dubstep" room. then in the summer of 2009, he & R-db launced Soul Funktion @ Stray Cat Bar & Grill, Tempe. Sadly, it ended within 2 months. In August, he started getting Dubstep tunes with more of a polyrhythmic beat like Afrobeat or Soca. Artists like Roska, Geeneus, Cooly G, Geiom, Brackles, Shortstuff, Joy Orbison, Deadboy, and Ill Blu were fused with a nu exciting genre called UK Funky ( a mix of House, UK G, Grime, Broken beat, and Afrobeat/Soca riddims). He then started acquiring large amounts of UK Funky tunes by Roska, Ill Blu, Crazy Cousins, Geeneus, Fuzzy Logik, Rudimental, Attacca Pesante, Donaeo, Simbad, and many more. His talent is matched with his extended knowledge of Dance Music/ Electronica, his tight mixing style, and large collection of diverse tunes... .. .. Contact info:.. Soul Funktion Entertainment..
