..Punk and Destroy S/T LP review:.. From the USA, in the state of Virginia and the city of Richmond, Shravan from Aghasts band Sedition Sub Rosa releases their first LP! Released on Skells Minneapolis label Distort Reality. The photograph on the insert has a band posing similar to Kuro and gives a good idea of what to expect the sound to be. The Sound resembles Kuro and ..80's Finnish hardcore like Riistetyt.. fused with very reverby vocals, the makings for a cool new band. Also many similarities to ..Invasion/Destino Final... All 11 tracks work perfectly. (Thanks to Tye for the translation) .. .. ..Blindead Mailorder "Orwellian Future E.P." Review:.. SSR are following up their excellent LP with an equally excellent, and faster, 5 track 7". No Security-styled vocals, fierce riffs, intense drumming, and rampant bass-lines... how can you go wrong? Great raw punk in the early 80's Scandanavian hardcore tradition. .. .. ..Maximum Rocknroll "Orwellian Future E.P." Review:.. I totally dig this record. We reviewed their LP Nuclear Nation last month, and I gotta say that I like this E.P. better (although I am going to give that LP another few listens now). The SSR (Sedition Sub Rosa) looks like CCR on the cover (CREEDENCE?). It's pretty much D-beat but don't let my saying that fool you... Yea, it's medium (definitely not mild) fast, but they definately play around with tempo enough to make it interesting, though not unrecognizable. Thier bass player: what the fuck? Let me go on record saying that I have only heard maybe two other current bass players (one being Al Murton from DISROBE) that can play with this much style. If I ever see him, I am buying him a shot. The recording let you hear every note this dude plays, and it's worth it. There is a lot of high end to the guitars, and the riffs are all about getting the point across and les howing off with a fucking over the top solo every ten seconds. There are also some wanky parts that seem to work better in some songs than in others (A very few that are maybe a little too punched in sounding?), but when solos do appear, they are creative and fit the song perfectly. The drummer is all power, doesn't fuck around, but like the guitarist, when he indulges with fills, they are are balance of precision and chaos. The lyrics are alright, but they have some shining moments and are a hell of a lot better than most bands in this genre. I like that they include both personal and social themes and the shit rhymes! The vocals are echoed, screamy, high-pitched yet throaty and definitely anguished. It all comes together to make a great chunk of songs, every one of them the sound of creeping, controlled choas. The last song on side B, "They Divide" is my new jam. Get this record, play it a few times and see what it does for you. As for me, I gotta see these guys live.
