Stuart Masters and A Certain Kind play what has variously been described as fusion folk, ambient acoustic or psych-jazz-folk. They derive their ethos from the artistic freedom offered by 60s progressive British music (The Soft Machine, John Martyn, The Incredible String Band) and the improvisational format of non-Western musical forms and Jazz. However, they take in a whole host of influences from medieval music through to the present day. Stuart's studies of Western Classical and Folk, Indian Classical, Arabic and Middle Eastern music, along with Dave's experience as a seasoned session player (with artists such as Stevie Wonder), provides a diverse and interesting canvas. Nick's dedication to creating atmospheric soundscapes, through effects-laden acoustic guitar, with careful attention to melodic and rhythmic definition, adds an ethereal, often chilling quality. Asha Bishop's sensitive, make-every-note-count approach to the violin, and Stuart's sometimes soaring, sometimes whispered vocal lines and live-looped multi-instrumental figures, weave in and out of this sound creating on overall impression of a musical form that is, well... different.

Following the independent release of Stuart's debut album, 'One last look around', the group have played support to The Strawbs and Jim Moray in UK venues, with a feature on the Rock N Reel cover-mount CD at the end of 2010. New performances, material, and festival appearances are in store for 2011...
