  • Bio

Deepcave Records has just released it's 8th album of 2010: Nanabijou- The Sleeping Giant Available today December 31st of 2010! Go download your copy 100% free at http://deepcavrecords.wordpress.com and be sure to download all the other free albums/ goodies on that site courtesy of Deepcave. Nanabijou is a group consisting of Deepcave Records artists Royal-T, Lev and Nevamind. They came up in Thunder Bay's hip hop scene in the same crew and made a couple albums together before Royal-T and Lev headed west to Winnipeg in 2004. Since then, Nevamind, who is one of Thunder Bay's first hip hop acts(active since the mid 90's), remained in Thunder Bay where he has taken a whole scene under his wing providing studio time, production and mentoring to the vast majority of MC's, producers and DJ's in T-Bay. Since their departure from Thunder Bay in 2004, Royal-T and Lev have toured, opened for many of hip hop's most legendary artists and released many albums to critical acclaim as part of groups and as solo artists. Nanabijou is an aboriginal term meaning Sleeping Giant that is used to describe a mountain in Lake Superior off the coast of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The mountain in the water resembles a giant sleeping and it's the subject of a lot of great aborignal folklore. It's Thunder Bay's most famous attraction and it's in plain view to a majority of the city's residents on a daily basis.Legend has it that Nanabijou aka the Sleeping Giant will awaken and take control of his territory on the coast of Lake Superior..... the time has come to wake the giant. In 2009, Royal-T and Lev returned to Thunder Bay for a few months and hooked up with former partner in rhyme Nevamind to write and record the Nanabijou album. On each track the rhymes are handled by all three group members with guest features from a handful of local Thunder Bay rappers as well as several Deepcave labelmates from Winnipeg. The sample heavy beats on "The Sleeping Giant" album are all done by Nevamind. They range from upbeat jams to dark and hard hitting bangers, a few of which are simple remixed excerpts from some of their favorite artists' beats that the trio were accustomed to flowing over for hours during late night marathon'esque freestyle cyphers at Nevamind's studio.
