Bio
.. The idea for The Autumn Year was formed, like a lot of great bands, in the back of a car. Jon and Iz had been playing a gig in Newcastle Upon Tyne with their bands (Canvas and Dropnose respectively) and were interested in trying their musical hands at something different. Steve, who was also in the car, wanted to start playing too and so The Autumn Year were formed. .. They were one of the UK's best examples of a late nineties emo band. Their first cd, released in 1999 and recorded with the legendary Mark Simms (Bob Tilton) at the Electric Press in Leeds, was released on local label Contrition (http://www.contritionrecords.cwc.net/news.html); probably better know for hardcore releases, with bands like Thirty Seconds Until Armageddon and Born From Pain on the rosta. The band started playing regulalrly both in Leeds and around the country. .. Their next move was to add Kev (...And None Of Them Knew They Were Robots) on second guitar and vocals. This added a lot to the bands sound and allowed for greater melodic content as well as adding a third vocalist. .. The next release was a split release with Thiry Seconds Until Armageddon from Newcastle Upon Tyne, again on Contrition in 2001 and recorded by Dale Holmes at In A City studios in Bradford. The band undertook a small UK tour with both Canvas and TSUA around this time, as well as continuing to play with many others around the country. .. For their final act the band went in and recorded 9 new tracks (again recorded by Dale Holmes at In A City), 8 of which became the posthumous CD "It's Better To leave While You Still Love It, Than To Leave Something Because You Hate It" released on 2001 on Santos records, and one which was intended for a split with Dugong on Bombed Out Records but unfortunately this never happened. One track from this session, "Cut Them Loose", appeared on the compilation "There's No Place Like Home" released on Margate based label Geek Scene. .... ................ .... -

The Autumn Year
Made it onto here: http://lnk.ms/bS7fF
The first time I got to see Thursday play I stood there slack jawed as I was being completely blown away, it was quite early on the Saturday of the 2002 Reading festival and no other band had such an impact on me that weekend.
