  • Bio

Once heralded by Folio Weekly as the city's “best coiffed rock-n'-roll band,” Rusholme Ruffians is more known for a catalog of explosive post-punk and captivating live shows than their glorious hairstyles. The Ruffians have spent the better part of their almost 3 year existence cementing their reputation as one of Jacksonville's best underground acts while breaking into other markets in Florida. August 2009 saw the release of The Demo EP, a DIY four-song collection displaying the range between three-minute pop and controlled chaos that highlights the group's all-embracing songwriting quality, tongue-in-cheek lyrical approach, and proficient technical prowess. While the EP has enjoyed success at shows and on iTunes, the Ruffians' self-released tour de force led to opportunities that include contributions to Infintesmal Records Vol. 3: The "Real" Better Jacksonville Plan and Skinny Records presents... Holiday Maladies: Issue 1. The Ruffians are currently recording their first full-length album, which is still looking for a home (hint, hint). Rusholme Ruffians plans on spending the rest of 2010 spreading the good word of River City Rock and Roll throughout the southeast while adding to the arsenal of volatile aural works and even more volatile equipment to create such works. When attending a Rusholme Ruffians show, do not expect a piano recital or shoegaze noise fest. The Ruffians are not afraid to get their hands dirty, so show up ready to throw down with one of Jacksonville's most in-your-face quartets. .. .. “[Rusholme Ruffians] combines lo-fi vocals with classic pop instrumentation to serve up a steaming helping of post-punk fun. [The Demo EP's] standout track is 'Hipster Clique'...that promises to 'indie rock your ass off.' Ironically, the group does just that.” Folio Weekly-Jacksonville, FL, 3/16/10 .. .. “Rusholme Ruffians are a completely original combination of post-punk, pop, and progressive music that is not easily grasped on the first listen. Live performances [lead] you to believe you are going to be hearing a throwback, new wave act, but then come the breakdowns...the mixture of everyone doing their own thing results in a cohesive unit with equal parts crazy and dance-ability. The Ruffians are worth a listen and once you get that first taste, you can't get enough.” The Buzz-Jacksonville, FL, 1/2010. .. .. ...thanks so much.  that would be amazing.  didn't really think our music appeals...even to the indie crowd.  not many people writing new surf these days.  we just love writing and playing (but would need 4 or 5 bandmates to play a gig haha).  our music is changing, we just now put up a demo of a bizzare new tune we call Witches Rock.  hope to see you in august.  black kids were great saturday night at jrs.
