THESE NEW PURITANS
PRESENT
HIDDEN LIVE
Band announce very special headline shows at
The Barbican, ..London.., Crossing Border Festival, Holland & Centre Pompidou, ....Paris....
At the start of 2010 These New Puritans released their second album, Hidden. It is an extraordinary record that takes influence from the brutal hip-hop of the Wu Tang Clan, the melancholy of Benjamin Britten, the crashing rhythms of Jamaican dancehall, and the multi-layered textures of Steve Reich.
Hidden was greeted by a deluge of gushing reviews:
“A record which sounds new in every way… uncompromisingly brilliant… announces TNP as one of the most powerful artistic forces in Britain today.” NME 9/10
“magically bleak, fantastically original, and, possibly, the first masterpiece of the 2010s” Telegraph 5*
“Astonishing… There are more ideas here than most bands manage in an entire career.” The Times 4*
"One of the most courageous, innovative and rebellious record in years" The Observer 5*
At various points the record features a 15-piece brass and woodwind ensemble; multiple prepared pianos, 6’ Japanese Taiko drums, and the use of Foley techniques to mimic the sounds of heads being crushed and swords being drawn. At a series of exclusive dates in October, November and December, These New Puritans present Hidden Live, the only chance to hear this music as it was originally recorded, accompanied by the full ensemble of brass, woodwind and giant drums; the orchestra will be conducted by André de Ridder (Gorillaz, Monkey). Following on from the debut performance at ..London..’s Barbican in October there will follow shows at the Crossing Border Festival, Den Hague and the Pompidou Centre, Paris, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
