    .. .. .. .. .. .. .................... ...... .. .. .. .. .. ...................... Tristan Scroggins is 15 years old and has been playing for only 5 years since this spring. Tristan started out playing music when he was inspired by his father, Jeff Scroggins, "The Unsung Hero of the Banjo", to learn how to play the banjo. However, Tristan's interests turned to the mandolin after he realized that he might actually have potential with that instrument and he figured he might as well kill two birds with one stone and socially alienate himself a little less. After just a few months of practicing, Tristan won through some set of random inexplicable events, the first contest he entered. This fully turned Tristan's attention to the mandolin. In the years following, Tristan began to put all his attention on his music. Thus, he abandoned his non-existent athletic abilities and traded his baseball for a pick. It paid off because in late July of 2007 Tristan came in first at the mandolin contest at the Pickin' on the Plains festival in Colby Kansas and later that same year went on to become the New Mexico State Mandolin Champion. The year after, he won the state's youth talent competition. Most recently (and possibly most notably), The Arizona State Championship and a SECOND win in New Mexico (As well as a win in the Duo contest thanks to fiddlest Sam Weiss) are two more titles Tristan can put under his belt. These days, Tristan has abondoned his beloved home in New Mexico and left all of his firends to relocate to the slightly larger bluegrass music hub that is Denver Colorado. Some things to look foward to are a band featuring Tristan, Jeff, and the lovely Lisa Astrella as well as a bit more underground project with guitarist Cody Carbone.
