Where's the Jungle clothing was conceived by artist and promoter Drone1, when the drum & bass scene had all but dried up in his native Cardiff, the club he had been working for had just been bought out, leaving him without his design & marketing job and anywhere to put on his Aperture drum & bass night. It was at a time when all the best dancehalls were changing into swanky, if not poncy cocktail bars, establishments that once had open arms for ravers were now turning away them in favour of there new up market clientele. As one of the most renowned promoters in the area, drone1 kept being asked the recurring question, "whens the next drum and bass dance?" or "Wheres the Jungle?" this spurred him on to find the best venue and soundsystem in town, but still out of a job drone1 had to turn to his design skills to make ends meet, having designed many sought after uniforms in the best bars and clubs in the city he went about producing fine designs personifying the message "where's the jungle? Before long producers and deejays who had long been his heroes were contacting him for the t-shirts ravers were buying them as far afield as Australia and Japan, it was all getting a little out of hand for a statement t-shirt meant to be a battle cry for the drum & bass scene in Cardiff. Since the explosion of the first run of t-shirts drone1 has found three homes for his drum & bass nights in Cardiff, Aperture & Serengeti are a major part of the very vibrant scene in his home town, even being nominated for 'best club night' in the national drum & bass awards. The t-shirts embody everything should represent street culture, a seed born out from the heart of drum & bass, a desire to change things for the better, a passion for design, a love for the music and the scene..... Where's The Jungle is a wing of a huge community rising up from the street, dj's, mc's, producers, promoters, pirate radio shows, clubs, designers, photographers, ravers, soundsystems built from the Aperture promotions in dancehalls around Cardiff. Everybody living in each others pockets, helping, collaborating and pushing each others creative pursuits and strong community spirit was key to the quick rise of 'Where's the Jungle' and the 'Where's the Jungle' team so far consisting of High Contrast (hospital records), Jordan V (movement), Stamina, Deeizm, Dan Marshall (bios), Jamal (metalheadz) and a fifty strong group of Cardiff resident Dj's and Mc's. Together we stand, divided we fall..... 'Where's the Jungle' is a complete cottage industry, with its heart in the drum and bass scene and its eye on world wide movements. Having been brought up in an urban neighborhood 'Where's the Jungle' is only too aware of how upsetting the fine balance of community by exploitation can have devastating effects, none more so in areas where it becomes a way of life. 'Where's the Jungle' is proud source as much of its production as possible locally and its cotton from fair trade practitioners. Now just into its second line and producing the new garments on high quality 160gm 100% cotton, they are sourced from fair trade, ethnically conscience producers, has a printshop based in Cardiff, labels produced in West Wales and labels sewn by friends of the designer in Cardiff. Everyone buying 'Wheres the Jungle can do so with piece of mind that they are not exploiting anybody or the earth as the production is all accounted for.
